Today, on our second long, we’ll discover the Lac du Wildenstein, in a marvellously idyllic location. But first we have to tackle the long ascent of the Markstein; on Thursday we rode down it, but it's also rewarding in the opposite direction. However, we don't spend long enjoying the fantastic view there, because we are lured by the descent to the Lac du Wildenstein, nestling deep in a valley. The snaking climb up to the Col de Bramont then takes us back to the spectacular Route des Crêtes. A detour to the Hohneck, the highest point in the Vosges that can be reached by bike, is a must-do at this point, of course! The winding descent from the Col de la Schlucht brings us back to Munster, from where only the Col de Firstplan is keeping us from cold drinks on the hotel terrace.
