On the fifth day we ride an extended version of the classic Sellaronda, which crosses four passes.
What would the Dolomites be without the Sella Ronda, the classic Sellaronda around the Sella massif. Today we opt for an extended version of this round, and get going immediately from Canazei with the long climb up the Sellajoch. After a short descent, pass number two, the Grödnerjoch, is not too demanding, but of course we need to ration out our reserves of strength as sensibly as we can. The descent takes us via Corvara – where we could cut short the classic Sellaronda by the Passo di Campolongo – to Stern, where the long ascent of the Passo die Valparola faces us. And, with a brief descent, we get the Passo di Falzarego thrown in for nothing. Now we drop down into the valley, where the only flat section of the day that is worth mentioning comes between Cernadoi and Arabba. A good opportunity, perhaps, to gather our remaining strength for the final climb, the Passo di Pordoi, which takes us back to Canazei.Options:
The Passo Campolongo, part of the classic Sellaronda, is not included in the extended version. You can ride it on the dead-end road and add another 12 kms / 400 m EG. Those who prefer to enjoy a sort of rest day ride the classic Sellaronda and total 61 kms / 2000 m EG.
